Artillery Genius Pro 3D Printer Review

Artillery is known for its affordable, high-quality 3D printers. The Genius Pro is the newest addition to the Artillery Genius 3D printer series. The original Genius is still popular and is arguably one of Artillery’s best-selling products to date. The Genius Pro is an improvement on the Genius. Let’s explore the features of this device below.

Artillery Genius Pro 3D Printer Review

Design

The Artillery Genius Pro is an FDM 3D printer like its predecessor. It was released in 2021. The upgraded Genius Pro design features newer aesthetics and improved technology. The dimensions of the Genius Pro are 430 x 390 x 590 mm. This device has a sleek look and comes with a spool at the top. This printer feels strong and features an aluminum base. The Genius Pro is available in black and blue color and weighs about 19.8 Ib (9.6 kg).

Like other Artillery printers, the Genius Pro is not fully pre-assembled; this must be done manually. The instructions are simple. Although the assembling process can be somewhat complex, it’s enjoyable and will leave you with a rewarding feeling afterward. Thankfully, the most challenging parts of the Genius Pro have been pre-assembled. The gantry comes pre-assembled with cables connected to the steeper motors and print head. This also includes strain relief. It takes only four simple screws to attach the gantry to the Genius Pro base. Afterward, you’ll only need to hook three cables to the primary board connection at the top of the base.

Build Volume

The Genius Pro 3D printer has a build area of 220 x 220 x 250 mm with a layer resolution of 0.1 to 0.35mm. Artillery recommends printing larger models in parts and assembling them afterward using glue for PLA and acetone of ABS.

Unlike other printers, the Artillery Genius Pro is not loud during printing. The Genius Pro is quiet thanks to its stepper drivers and low-decibel working mode. Artillery made the stepper drivers easily replaceable.

Build Plate

The build plate of the Genius Pro printer is made with tempered glass and ceramic. This glass has a high hardness to prevent models from warping. The print bed is designed to heat up fast. The AC-powered print bed can reach up to 70 C in just two minutes and up to 120 C after 60 seconds. One of the downsides of Genius Pro is that its print bed does not heat up evenly.

The Genius Pro is fast and has a print speed of 60mm/s to 150 mm/s, with a travel speed of 250mm/s.

Print Quality

This Artillery 3D device can print layers at 100 microns, which is good enough for its quality. The Genius Pro print surface may be smoother than the finishing on more expensive and higher-value printers. However, the print quality is excellent for creating prototypes and for teaching. The Genius Pro has a 0.4 mm Volcano nozzle and a Titan extruder offering speed and detail. The Volcano nozzle also offers smoothness and fast melting. The Titan extruder is new and provides efficiency and accuracy during prints.

The main board of the Genius Pro is upgraded to 32-bit Ruby from the 8-bit of the original Genius.

Dual Z-axis

The Genius Pro has a dual Z-axis design, double screw drive, and closed looped belt. This offers more precision, stability, and speed during printing.

Touchscreen

The Artillery Genius Pro comes with a colored touchscreen UI that is highly intuitive and responsive. You can control the printer via this screen using its built-in TFT display. The printer can also be controlled via a PC.

Filament

The Artillery Genius Pro is designed to work with a variety of materials. This device is compatible with ABS, PLA, PVA, HIPS, and wood. The extruder of this printer is designed with a filament diameter of 1.75mm, and the XYZ resolution is 0.05mm, 0.05mm, and 0.01mm. The extruder also has a fan that cools the model when printing is in progress. This helps with stringing issues and reduces warping.

Safety

Like other Artillery 3D printers, the Genius Pro is safe and has many features to ensure everything works out well. This device comes with a filament sensor and print recovery. These features will protect your models when the filament runs out or when the power goes out. This device also comes with energy-saving features. For example, the underside of the print bed is fitted with thermal insulation. There is also a fully bonded foam plate that helps the cooling process after printing. A model can be released from the plate 20 minutes after printing.

The Genius Pro also has a new power supply switch allowing users more power over the voltage. Users can switch between 100 V and 240 V without affecting print quality.

Software/Connection

The Artillery Genius Pro 3D printer is compatible with different software like Cura, Simplyfy3D, and Slic3r. This device can be connected using a USB or an SD card. Like other Artillery printers, the Genius Pro works with Mac OS and Windows operating systems.
