Artillery Sidewinder SW-X2 3D Printer Review

Artillery went back to its roots with the Artillery Sidewinder SW-X2 3D printer. This brand appeared in 2018 with the Sidewinder X1 as its main product. Despite their growth, the Artillery Sidewinder X1 is still one of its best-selling 3D printers.

Unsurprisingly, Artillery released the Sidewinder SW-X2, an update to its first product, amid much anticipation. Continue reading to learn if the Sidewinder X2 lives up to users’ expectations

Design

The design of the Artillery Sidewinder X2 is very similar to that of its predecessor. The Sidewinder X2 has a solid feel; it is made of aluminum and plastic. This printer has a sleek look and comes with a deep blue-black finish. Artillery designed the Sidewinder X2 with an integrated cable system, giving it a novel and simple look. This printer weighs about 14 kilograms.

Build Volume

Artillery’s Sidewinder X2 3D printer has a large print volume of 300 x 300 x 400 mm. You can print larger models and design parts with this device. The Sidewinder X2 is also very fast. This device has a maximum print speed of 150 mm/s. However, the recommended speed level is around 60 mm/s. You get better quality prints when you slow down the printing speed. The Sidewinder X2 printer comes with a new Titan drive extruder with a volcano nozzle that extrudes faster.

The Sidewinder X2 makes good-quality prints. This device has a layer thickness of 0.1 mm to 0.3 mm and a travel speed of 250mm/s.

Heat Bed

The Sidewinder X2 3D printer comes fitted with a tempered glass printing platform. Artillery made this platform smoother for print adhesion. This printer also has an AC heat bed ideal for thermal conductivity and promotes fast heating. In two minutes, the heat bed can reach up to 110 C. It should be noted the print bed is large, making it great for large models. On the flip side, it makes the distribution of heat uneven. The AC heater has large holes under the bed where the rotary screws are located. This prevents the temperature from spreading evenly.

Noise

Compared to other 3D printers, the Sidewinder X2 is quiet. This Artillery device usually prints without any noise. Expect some light noise when printing diagonally. The Sidewinder X2 printer is designed with quiet stepper motor drivers. And its power supply does not have any fans, thus reducing noise levels considerably.

Screen

The Sidewinder X2 by Artillery has a 2.7-inch diagonal colored touch screen. Although the screen is small, it works excellently; it’s intuitive and fast. You can control the entire printer via this screen.

Bed Leveling

Artillery designed the Sidewinder X2 with automatic bed leveling. The matrix automatic bed leveling improves print quality and saves you from the stress of manual leveling. Artillery also designed the Sidewinder X2 with an Antclabs BLTouch sensor.

Versatile Power Supply

The Sidewinder X2 3D printer has an intelligent power supply to adapt to different voltages. This Artillery device has a voltage range of 110 V to 220 V. This makes it easy to print with the Sidewinder X2 in any country.

New Motherboard

The Sidewinder X2 3D printer is fitted with a 320-bit motherboard upgrade. The Sidewinder X1 has an 8-bit motherboard. This new motherboard offers high stability, strong computing power, and expandability. This motherboard has the processing power to accommodate any updates.

Safety

Artillery maintained some security features from the Sidewinder X1 on the X2. The Sidewinder X2 is designed to pause when there’s a power outage. This device will also pause when you run out of filament during printing. And, when power is back, or you have refilled your filament, it will continue printing where it left off.
