Anycubic Mega X vs. Mega Pro: Large 3D Printers Review

Anycubic’s Mega series features large 3D printers ideal for fast prints and flexible designs. The first printer in this series was released in 2017, and Anycubic has kept the updates coming since then. The printers in the Anycubic Mega series include i3 Mega, Mega Zero, Mega-S, Mega X, and Mega Pro. Below we will look at the two biggest printers in this series — the Mega X and Mega Pro.

Anycubic Mega X

The Anycubic Mega X 3D printer features the classic Anycubic design. It comes pre-assembled, has a sleek look, and feels solid. The device is generally user-friendly. The instruction manual is easy to follow, even for 3D printing novices.

The frame of the Anycubic Mega X is primarily made of steel. It weighs about 14kg and measures 500 x 500 x 533 mm. There are no wires hanging on the Mega X; everything is tucked nicely. This may be one of the best large printers in this Anycubic series.

Build Volume

One of the distinguishing factors of Mega X is its vast build space, making it the biggest in this collection. The build space of the Anycubic Mega X is 300 x 300 x 305mm. The Mega X is ideal for bigger prints and produces excellent models. The downside is that this device is noisy, especially when you start printing. The cooling fans and Trinamic drivers are equally loud, but it is a small price to pay for the excellent prints this device produces.

Print Speed

The Anycubic Mega X 3D printer has a print speed of about 20-100mm/s. Anycubic suggests that you set the print speed at 60mm/s. The speed affects the overall quality of your prints, so it’s ideal to stay within the recommended settings.

Build Plate

The build plate of this Anycubic 3D printer is made of Ultrabase glass and designed to heat up evenly. This large Ultrabase glass print heats up fast, reaching about 60 C in two minutes. The maximum temperature of the Mega X build plate is 90 C.

The best thing about this Mega X build plate is that it contains a microporous coating, which makes printing effortless. This build plate also firmly holds onto models when heated up. The hold is reduced when it cools down, so models can easily be removed.

Touchscreen

The Anycubic Mega X 3D printer has a 3.5-inch color display with touchscreen functionality. The menu is large enough to see and tap on options with your fingertips. The screen is responsive to touch.

Note: There’s an unpleasant sound when you start the screen and the start-up animation audio plays.

Filament

The Mega X is versatile and works with different filaments, including ABS, HIPS, PLA, and wood. Anycubic designed the Mega X with a filament sensor, which is standard in more expensive 3D printers. This works by pausing the printing process when the filament runs out.

The Mega X has a usable filament diameter of 1.75mm. It also comes with a filament holder, which fits nicely. The holder ensures that the filament runs smoothly and evenly. Anycubic Mega X can hold about 1kg of filament, allowing you to print massive models without worrying about running out of filament.

Connection/Software

The Anycubic Mega X 3D printer works with FDM technology and is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems. This printer works with software like Cura and the Anycubic-recommended slicer. You can connect to the Mega X via USB or an SD card.
